A Company of Italian hobbits is on its way to throw the ring into Vesuvius
A company of Italian hobbits is crossing half of Italy to destroy a magic ring by throwing it into the crater of Vesuvius. The journey, inspired by Tolkien's saga of the Lord of the Rings, will serve for a fundraiser: the goal is to complete Contea Gentile, the hobbit village that a young man from Abruzzo has decided to build for all enthusiasts in the province of Chieti.
We chose Vesuvius – explains Nicolas Gentile to Fanpage.it – above all because, in ancient times, it was also a symbol of destruction, as were Mount Doom, Sauron and all of Mordor. Today, even if it is not as active as other volcanoes like Etna, Vesuvius is still scary, because it is much closer to people. So the choice to throw the ring in there is also, symbolically, a way to give courage, hope”.
